(1844). —Scholar; joint ed. of Dictionary of Classical Mythology, Religion, etc. (1891), History of Classical Scholarship from Sixth Century, B.C., to the End of the Middle Ages (1903), History of Classical Scholarship from Revival of Learning to Present Day (1907), etc.; has produced many ed. of classics.
